THE TOUR - Part 01 - Northampton and Cambridge
We managed to get OBNY a temporary passport (his had run out) so that he could fly into othe UK from Avignon where he lives. We were left with one day to rehearse the set , most of which OBNY knew already from having been involved in mastering or remixing the numbers. We had to pick up a Marshall stack from Steve's Electric Ladyland (He's sorted out many a musician over the years)as OBNY hadn't been allowed to carry his on the plane. I had re-programmed the 8 numbers for our set and was to be performing them live AND doing the vocals for the first time. Despite various interruptions including a loud smoke alarm, we got it all done and set off for Northampton the next day.
The Deco is a smart and charming theatre but a somewhat strange venue for a Hawkwind gig. The band and crew were friendly and helpful and we felt for a first gig we did OK and got quite a good reception and met some old and made some new friends.
On to Cambridge for the next gig - The Junction is a purpose built venue and a much better setting. We spent some time in the afternoon altering some programming and ran through one of the numbers before sound checking. Great sound from the start which filled us from confidence. When we went on stage at 8 the hall was already quite packed which meant we were even more on form. We felt we played a good set and the crowd were very responsive even Hawkwind band members watching the set and giving us loads of good feedback. Monster Truck with which we finish the set was said to be the tune !!! Again lots of old and new friends. OBNY couldn't get over the whole cool and friendly ambience. And we went for a few drinks after the show with Jay, Hawkwinds keyboard player and a group of fans - Dutch, American and Brit. A really great night.
And I mustn't forget Hawkwind's show which was top notch and got a great reception. We can't wait for the next two shows. See you there maybe !
